Grandchester Hotel replaced the Railway Hotel was destroyed by fire in the 1950s. It was rebuilt and is now known as the Grandchester Hotel. This pub is a true community pub servicing local farmers and historic local families, the pub works hard to attract new customer with live music, promotions good food. Grandchester derives from the old English name for bigge (Grand) and camp (Chester), Worth a visit local river, train station and other historic building around town the gatekeeper's cottage was originally situated beside the level crossing. It was later shifted to its present position and is now a private residence. Grandchester State School opened on 29 January 1878, Grandchester Post Office opened on 1 January 1866 and closed in 1978, Grandchester sawmill is the last known surviving steam-powered flat-belt sawmills in Australia. The Mill engine manufactured in 1908, is under re-construction and restoration this important piece of history is preserved for the generations that follow.
