The town was originally called Ten Mile Creek and the first buildings were erected in 1836. Original German immigrant, John Christopher Pabst, became the first publican of the Woolpack Hotel on 29 July 1840. The town had many names and the publicans at the time named to town to suit their feeling at the time, the Riverina Hotel known as the Riv is part of Australian history and the towns got a rather large sub marine parked in the middle of town The HMAS Otway in the park great place to stop and let the kid run amuck and stretch the legs a nice park with a huge sub marine ? Major renovations in 2014 as well as a new bistro bar and alfresco dining areas on the adjacent empty (rough beergarden) transformed in outdoor dinning and live entertainment area. Kingscliff was known as Cuden but was sub divided by a developer who called it Kingscliff 1930s and became a popular tourist destination as Tweed Heads and Coolangatta became popular, Kingscliff is still a one pub town with a top pub to have good food and a cold beer in and live entertainment.
