TROVE Wednesday 14 April 1926 at a sitting of the Licensing Court yesterday morning, William McLennan, licensee of the Sandilands Hotel, Mallanganee, applied to change the name of the Hotel to the Mallanganee Hotel.
The application was granted.
Trove extract Thursday 25th May 1939 FIRST SETTLEMENT IN EARLY FIFTIES
Mallanganee Centre Of Thriving District

Situated at the foot of the Richmond Range, on the main road between Tenterfield and Ballina, is the town ship of Mallanganee, the centre of a district possessing many resources, chiefly timber and dairy farming. The
first settlement took place in the early fifties, Mr. Robertson being the first selector. The present township adjoins Mr. Robertson's original homestead, which subsequently was sold to Mr. Charles Bruxner, father of Mr. M. F. Bruxner, who owns "Sandilands," where he was born.

The first hotel was erected by Mr.William Ross, who selected part of the station in the scrub country at the foot of the range. The present hotel, conducted by Mr. Dan O'Connor, is erected within 100 yards of the
original one. In the early days Mallanganee was reached by a bridle track from the old Tenterfield-Lawrence road through Busby's Flat. The construction by the Government of the first road between Tenterfield and Casino was due to the efforts of Mr. Ross. As late as in 1910 dense scrub overhung the road over the main range, which at present is being straightened by the Main Roads Department. A better grade has been obtained and the new road links up with the main road near Hewetson's sawmill. The road when completed will enable the journey to Tenterfield to be done in less than three hours.
