Harwood Hotel first hotel was built in 1870

first called the Morpeth Hotel after “Morpeth on the Hunter River”

was a house a large two story with a drinking room and located near the bridge to the Pacific Highway,

the first Europeans settled the area around the 1830s due to the abundance of cedar

. Sugar cane production began in the 1850s, and the Harwood Mill opened in 1874 and is still in operation.

Harwood Hotel is still a thriving Village with the Cane Mill still operational and Antique shop across the road, the locals have a dim veiw of people not been nice,

The Hero of Waterloo was built in 1842 by George Paton,

This hotel has old world charm, must visit pub built 1842

If you look closely at the Hero’s walls, you can still see the chisel marks of the convicts who carved them.

This is a beautiful pub tucked away a bit from the tourists, it offers good pub food with so much history on the walls.

Convict labour was used to build both the hotel and the Church from sandstone from the Argyle Cut.
