This week the big Gem fields exhibition is on first couple of weeks in August I be heading back to the New Royal Hotel, they have a smoker outback, and it cooks up a good fest for locales and visitors.
The original Pub was opened In 1907 and called the Kate Leahy’s Royal Hotel opened to a population of more than 300 miners with Kate Leahy as licensee. The original Royal Hotel closed June 1961 and destroyed by fire in 1987. The “New Royal Hotel” was built in 1997 on the same site that Kate Leahy’s hotel had opened 90 years earlier. The pubs got all things happening coffee shop in the mornings, family accommodation 4 full equipped cabins I didn’t get to see them inside but look good for outside and the foods good lunch and dinner and a fair wine list and drive thou bottle shop, great team of staff and busy for lunch and dinner, the prices are really good and affordable. The locals are miners and farms and arty folk in the town a collective mix keeps it interesting the venue is family friendly with head of security, justice and chief prosecutor the manager keeping it real.
Driving into Rubyvale opens your mined to a new adventure and possibly a dream of getting out of the rat race for the winter months and grab a plot and try to strike it rich and people have, I’m heading back for the Gem fest Gem Fields Evens 2024 held evert year this year it 9th to 11th of August for the man activities but it is run over a month or so buyers and sellers from all over the world come out and the mines produce their best rocks for the hard work. The town also has cattle and small cropping and the arts are not missed in town. More information Daniel Hickey Media There are five fossicking areas in Rubyvale Township: Reward; Middle Ridge; Scrub Head; Divide. Tomahawk Creek, which is 40 kilometres away, are relatively close to town. Heaps of kid adventures around town fossicking parks buy a fossickers bag of wash and wash and rinse and sort the sapphires from the gravel. This caravan central good parks and camping spots call ahead to get the correct information of staying but there are heads of places to pull over and turnaround the pub New Rubyvale Hotel is good and well-priced the food is great and a good wine list.

The Dog N Bull Hotel is situated in a small village called Bonalbo off the main roads the towns got a caravan park, bowls club and petrol station and local shops this is small town/village with a population of around 300 people. It’s worth the drive to this town great family run with a little creek runs though the town the chickens and roasters walk the streets freely, this town started as many small towns started with a farmer needing a community to prosper in 1911 land was purchased from McNamee and several buildings some built and owned by McNamee formed the basis of the town. There was a butcher's shop, hotel, billiard hall, post office, St Andrew's Presbyterian Church and “yes” Scottish heritage, a school, a boarding house, a blacksmith's, a bank, a general store, and a butter factory. The pub is the hub of the town a newer style pub as the old one burnt down in 1985 the original pub was established in 1909, I couldn’t find a photo of the original pub, if anyone has one I would like to add it to this blog just e-mail to me danielhickeymedia@gmail.com . Bonalbo is a convenient country drive rest stop on the scenic border ranges routes linking Queensland's Southern Downs with the northern Tablelands of NSW. I stayed at the pub Dog N Bull Hotel has 4 motel style room a public Bar and Bistro. Guests can choose from a variety of rooms including Double, Single and Triple which are fully serviced every day. Private ensuite, air-conditioning, small bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities, toaster and television.
Bonalbo offers some amazing sights in and around the town on my stay, the pub had a “Eat Street” were the fire truck blocked of the road in front of the pub and food stalls set to raise money for local charity it was a great night with the locals coming out to enjoy the food and entertainment, Bonalbo has the Yabbra State Forest to explore with some spectacular eucalypt trees, bellbirds in the top of the trees and rainforest walks of the side of the road if you keep driving out north to Urbenville you will find signposted Bean Creek Falls.
Bonalbo is claimed to have had the State's first dog trials 52 years ago and was also a famed centre for bull sales. A bronze statue of a working dog was unveiled in April 2017. Bonalbo as the birthplace of working dog trials, in 1841 only four years after arriving in Sydney, drove sheep from the Hunter Valley to the Bonalbo district where he established the 'Bunalbo' or Duck Creek run. I found this place on my way the Tabulam Rodeo after visiting the Casino Beef Week

Only a few minutes to Myrtle Creek and 20 minutes from Casino. This hotel has got so much history and is a credit to the current owners how have restored and maintained the integrity of the pub and offers food to a higher standard than most hotels and has a made a name for itself. The public bar timber tables and country style layout and then moving into the Parlor or lounge area and then to the rear dining area where the magic happens with the food the chef special board are the best, this is where he can show his true skills and we get to eat them.
Rapp's Commercial Hotel operated using the licence from a previous establishment of the same name owned by his wife's mother in the neighbouring settlement of Myrtle Creek 1880s early settler and businessman Henry Rapp, who first selected land in the area in 1888. In the same year, Rapp opened his new Commercial Hotel, designed by the local architectural firm of Popplewell and Sykes, on a site opposite the small Rappville Railway Station. This is a destination Pub and “This is Australia”.
